"Questa è un'occasione meravigliosa. Questo abete è stato donato dal Piemonte, dal Comune di Macra in Val Maira. E' alto quasi 30 metri e ha più di 50 anni. Purtroppo il suo destino era segnato, doveva essere abbattuto. Allora abbiamo avuto l'idea di proporlo al Santo Padre perché diventasse l'abete del Natale, l'albero del Natale. La proposta è stata accolta ed ecco perché siamo qui oggi. Abbiamo vissuto l'emozione della cerimonia unica e stupenda che non solo centralizza l'immagine del Piemonte e delle sue montagne, ma anche perché incarna i valori della nostra Regione: solidarietà, pace, fratellanza. Valori che ci auguriamo davvero siano i valori veri di questo Natale. Pertanto in questa piazza, a nome del Piemonte, auguriamo al mondo un buon Natale " lo ha detto Alberto Cirio, presidente della Regione Piemonte, a margine dell'accensione dell'albero di Natale e del presepe in piazza San Pietro, in Vaticano.
